Buying Zurich Travel Insurance

We offer insurance for:

  • Just me – covers 1 adult
  • A group – covers up to 10 adults/children
  • My family (Single Trip) – covers maximum 2 adults who need not be related; and any number of the following of Your Dependent child(ren), unmarried grandchildren, nieces, nephews, or cousins who are at least one month old but less than 18 years of age on the Inception Date. Dependent child(ren) must be accompanied by at least an adult for any Journey made during the Policy Period
  • My family (Annual Policy) – covers 2 adults (legal spouse) and their legal dependent child(ren). Dependent child(ren) who are less than 12 years of age must be accompanied by at least an adult for any Journey made during the Policy Period

Travelling to:

  • ASEAN – Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, Philippines, Vietnam
  • Asia – Inclusive of Asean, and Australia, Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, Hong Kong, Macau, Timor-Leste, Fiji, India, Japan, Maldives, Mongolia, Nepal, New Zealand, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan
  • Worldwide – Rest of the world, inclusive of Asia

Please note that any country subjecting Zurich to violation of any applicable trade or economic sanctions, laws, or regulations and where the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Singapore advises against travelling to are excluded.

You can purchase Zurich Travel Insurance up to 365 days before your scheduled journey. Please note that the earliest period that some of the benefits will be applicable is 60 days before the journey begins from Singapore.  

No, we do not offer instalment payment plans.

Yes, you can select up to 5 countries.
You will receive a Product Summary of your purchase, together with the Zurich Travel Insurance policy wording, which will be sent to the email address you have provided.

Purchase of Single Journey Policy is non-refundable.

In respect of Annual Travel Policy, it may be cancelled by either the Policyholder or Zurich by giving 7 days written notice to the other party at their last known registered address or by Policyholder contacting us at our Customer Service Hotline +65 6260 0126 (9.00am to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday, excluding Public Holidays).

A proportionate amount of the premium for the unexpired period will be returned, subject to a minimum premium of SGD 25 to be retained by Zurich and provided no claims have been paid. You will receive a refund as a percentage of the amount you paid, as shown below:

In the event of a refund, the process leading to the crediting of the refund amount into your original charged credit card account will be within 15 days from date of email confirmation from Zurich.

Plans and coverage

Any unmarried person, who is dependent on the Insured Person and who is at least 1 month old but less than 18 years of age at the time of date of loss, including legally adopted and stepchild or stepchildren, of an Insured Person.
A single journey plan only covers one specific journey up to 183 days, whereas an annual travel journey plan will cover any journey made during the period of insurance, as long as one journey does not exceed 90 days.
If the travel advisory strongly advises against travelling to a specific place is issued before you purchase the policy, you are not covered. If after you purchase your policy, the circumstances in that country change leading to the Ministry of Foreign Affair’s travel notice, you are covered because such circumstances are unforeseen.

A journey begins from the place of embarkation in Singapore and ends when you disembark in Singapore upon your return journey. For one-way journey, the cover ceases upon arrival of the insured at the final destination.

This means any medical conditions for which the Insured Person:

Received medical treatment, diagnosis, consultation or prescribed drugs within a 12-month period preceding the journey of the Insured Person in this Policy, with the exception of congenital anomalies which will be considered as permanent exclusion under our policy wording.

Yes, you must be at least 13 weeks pregnant and not travelling against the advice of your physician. You are covered up to the benefit limit, terms, and conditions of our policy wording.
This is when you suffer life-threatening injury or medical conditions overseas. Emergency evacuation due to injury and sickness will be determined in consultation with the overseas doctor treating the patient and our locally appointed physician.

Your baggage and personal belongings are covered for loss due to theft, robbery, burglary or for accidental damage.

Any claim for loss or accidental damage while under the custody, care or control of a transport or accommodation provider must first be made against the provider. Please note that we require a document issued by the provider that your claim has been rejected or been partially paid.

Yes, you are protected for a claim that is directly caused by terrorism. Subject to the policy wording, this includes journey cancellation as a result of the country being restricted to travel by the Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs or being injured while overseas as a result of terrorism acts. For our definition of terrorism, please refer to our policy wording.

For benefits that are on reimbursement basis (i.e. medical expenses), if the benefit limit has been fully exhausted from the policy, you can claim the balance amount under the other policies covering the same accident.

In the event the benefit limit is not exceeded, you are unable to claim from another insurance policy.

For non-reimbursement benefits, you can claim from multiple insurers.

Insurance applies for journeys that begin within the period of Insurance.

Insurance cover for travel cancellation benefits starts from the date your journey is booked or 60 days before your journey starts (whichever is later). Please note that if you purchase this insurance less than 3 days before your journey starts, this benefit is not available.

Eligibility and quotation

You are at least 18 years old and qualify under any of the following categories:

  1. You are a citizen of Singapore, unless You have resided outside Singapore continuously for 5 or more years preceding the application date of the Policy and are not currently residing in Singapore;
  2. You are a permanent resident, unless You have resided in Singapore for less than a total of 183 days in the 12 months preceding the application date of the Policy;
  3. You have a work pass or permit required under the Employment of Foreign Manpower Act 1990, unless You have resided in Singapore for less than a total of 183 days in the 12 months preceding the application date of the Policy; or 
  4. You have a pass or permit required under the Immigration Act 1959 that has a duration longer than 90 days and You have resided in Singapore continuously for at least 90 days in the 12 months preceding the application date of the Policy.

The information required to obtain a quote is:

  • Single, one-way or annual travel plan
  •  Individual, couple, group or family
  • Travel destination
  •  Travel start and end dates (for single journey travel)
  • Travel start date (for one-way journey and annual travel)
Yes, you can. However, please keep in mind you will not be covered for any claim where the cause can be directly linked to your existing medical condition.
You must be a valid NRIC, FIN or S-Pass holder and 18 years of age or above to purchase Zurich Travel Insurance. The maximum age limit covered is 99 years of age.

Single Journey Policy

For a “Family” Plan, the Insured Persons are:

  • A maximum of 2 adults who need not be related; and
  • Any number of Your Dependent Child or Children, unmarried grandchild, niece, nephew or cousins who is/are at least 1 month old but less than 18 years of age on the Inception Date.

The Dependent Child or Children, grandchild, niece, nephew, or cousins in a “Family” Plan must be accompanied by at least one adult mentioned above for any Journey made during the Policy Period.

Annual Policy

For a “Family” Plan, the “Family” shall comprise:

  • You,
  • Your Spouse, and
  • Your Dependent Child or Children

The Dependent Child or Children who are below 12 years of age in a “Family” Plan must be accompanied by You or Your Spouse for any Journey made during the Policy Period.

For single journey travel insurance, the maximum is 183 days. For annual travel insurance, the maximum is 90 days per journey.
You will be covered as long as you are participating in a sports event in an amateur capacity (that is, you are not being paid to participate), and the sporting activity meets the criteria listed in the policy wording.

Yes, you are covered for activities such as:

  • Zip-lining 
  • Bungee jumping
  • Tandem skydiving
  • Helicopter rides for sightseeing
  • Hot air balloon ride
  • Canoeing or white water rafting with a qualified guide and up to Grade 3 (of International Scale of River Difficulty)
  • Scuba diving up to a maximum depth of 30 meters with a qualified dive instructor or dive master and with a recognized diving certification 
  • Hiking, trekking or mountaineering at mountains up to 3,000 meters above sea level

These activities must be carried out for leisure and non-competitive purpose with a licensed operator. Please refer to the policy wording for full terms and conditions.

Yes, however the personal liability section does not apply to any legal responsibility related to your business.
You may opt for a “Family” Plan even if you have only one child, because we consider a single parent and child to be a family unit.
No, we do not cover for any kind of cosmetic surgery including tattoos unless it was deemed to be medically necessary as a result of an accident you were involved in during your journey.
No, we do not cover any cost where the purpose of the journey is to obtain medical care or treatment of any kind.

Claims

Simply log into My Portal at http://web.edge.zurich.com.sg/portfolio to submit your claim and we will get in touch with you as soon as possible.

If your claim is in a foreign currency and in cash, we will reimburse you in Singapore dollars using the foreign exchange rate (listed on Oanda Finance) on the incident date. If you used a credit card, we will reimburse you the amount charged in Singapore dollars on your credit card bill.

You are required to notify Zurich of a claim within 30 days from the date of incident. If you require emergency medical and travel assistance services, please call our 24/7 Assistance Emergency Hotline at +65 6260 0122.
You are required to notify Zurich of a claim within 30 days from the date of incident. No, there is no penalty for filing your claim after you return to Singapore.

You will need to lodge a report with the airline. Proof of denial or partial compensation by the airline would be required as part of the supporting documents to enable us to assess your claim.
